Product Summary Draft #2

Singtel Fleet Manager

In reference to Fleet Manager (n.d), Singtel features a fleeting product, Singtel Fleet Manager, which is a “cloud-based solution” that enable users to undertake tracking and organizing of fleet vehicles with ease. Users can have “full visibility” of their vehicles and manage their operations smoothly using “3G tracker units” that is equipped with advance satellite tracking system and “SLA Street Directory’s Premium Map”.

Singtel states that the product allows monitoring “real-time visibility” of fleet vehicles as well as live traffic updates. It gives details about every driver’s driving habits, every fleet vehicle position, fuel consumption, speed and direction plus, traffic situations of their designated routes. Having this information at hand, the users can check if all the vehicles are operating efficiently throughout, identify and attend to any complication that occurs and promptly redirect the nearest fleet vehicle as a substitute for the delivery if any breakdown or emergency occurs. By overseeing drivers’ habits, it can negate any unnecessary engine idling, aggressive driving, excessive braking, speeding and at the same time, ensuring the conformity of drivers according to road traffic regulations.

In addition, the website states that “Geo Boundary Alerts” are also made available to users, allowing users to be notified when a vehicle diverge from its assigned route. Past routes from the last 12 months are also viewable to aid users to “plan more efficient routes and fleet usage, optimizing delivery time and reducing fuel and maintenance cost.” In surplus, the product features an anti-theft function whereby users can immobilise any fleet vehicle that is reported stolen. The fleet vehicle’s positioning details can also be given to the authorities so that it can be recovered. This function is usable anywhere in Singapore and Malaysia. Users can access to all the information mentioned via any device that have Internet Browser through the Singtel Fleet Manager Portal.

Hence, the up-to-date and historical data collected by the users can be analysed. Traffic patterns as well as driving patterns can be examined to predict future possible outcomes on specific time, date and area. Tweaking of route can also be made instantaneously to improve efficiency for the operations. This will optimise the work flow for the user as well as the drivers. In addition, the user can feel assured as they are being notified by the “Geo Boundary Alerts”, easy access to the portal on many types of personal devices such as handphones, tablets and laptops as well as higher chances of recovering a stolen fleet vehicle.

Other than the attractive features and functions that the product offers, they provide value-add services bundled with the product. The unique service that they offer which states on Singtel’s website is “zero replacement cost” meaning that there would be no additional cost in the event of faulty hardware during the “contractual period”. Other than that, they also focus on being customer-oriented by providing multiple layers of services to their customers according to customers’ size and budget. In addition, Singtel will manage all the technical aspects required for this product. Hence, this will make the user feel more assured of the product

As compared to M1 Fleet Management, Singtel Fleet Manager have the upper-hand in terms of the more appealing value-added services that Singtel offers along with the product. However, Singtel Fleet Manager is lacking features such as “Accident Notifications” and “Engine Diagnostics” that are found in M1 Fleet Management. According to M1 Fleet Management (n.d), “Accident Notifications” stores the accident details on a recorder and the collision data will be uploaded to the fleet management portal. This is to mitigate liability on any accident occurred. M1 also states that “Engine Diagnostic” codes will be sent through the devices and it will indicate the fleet vehicle’s engine health.

In my opinion, those features are only additional features of which does not affect the main application of the product. Moreover, a well-managed system on Singtel Fleet Manager can produce ample time for maintenance routine checks of fleet vehicles. Thus, this reduce the need of “Engine Diagnostic” feature. Nowadays, car black box with cameras are cheaply and readily available in the market, it is also quite reliable as an evidence for accidents occurred. This will reduce the need of “Accident Notification” feature from M1 Fleet Management.

In conclusion, both products satisfy the needs of the user, but I am more incline towards Singtel Fleet Manager because it kept reassuring the users on the effectiveness of the product and the customer-oriented nature that Singtel have adopted.
