Product Summary Draft #3
Singtel Fleet Manager
Referencing to Singtel (n.d) Fleet Manager,
Singtel features a fleeting product, Singtel Fleet Manager, which is a
“cloud-based solution” that enable fleet managers to undertake tracking and
organizing of fleet vehicles with ease. Fleet managers can have “full
visibility” of their vehicles and manage their operations smoothly using “3G
tracker units” that is equipped with advance satellite tracking system and “SLA
Street Directory’s Premium Map”.
Singtel states that the product allows monitoring
“real-time visibility” of fleet vehicles as well as live traffic updates. It
gives details about every driver’s driving habits, every fleet vehicle
position, fuel consumption, speed and direction plus, traffic situations of
their designated routes. Having this information at hand, fleet managers can
check if all the vehicles are operating efficiently throughout, identify and
attend to any complication that occurs and promptly redirect the nearest fleet
vehicle as a substitute for the delivery if any breakdown or emergency occurs.
By overseeing drivers’ habits, it can negate any unnecessary engine idling,
aggressive driving, excessive braking, speeding and at the same time, ensuring
the conformity of drivers according to road traffic regulations.
In addition, the website states that “Geo Boundary
Alerts” are also made available to fleet managers, allowing them to be notified
when a vehicle diverge from its assigned route. Past routes from the last 12
months are also viewable to aid fleet managers to “plan more efficient routes
and fleet usage, optimizing delivery time and reducing fuel and maintenance
cost.” The product also features an anti-theft function whereby users can
immobilise any fleet vehicle that is reported stolen. Fleet managers can access
to all the information mentioned via any device that have Internet Browser
through the Singtel Fleet Manager Portal.
Other than the attractive features and functions that
the product offers, Singtel provide value-add services bundled with their product.
In their website, Singtel focuses on being customer-oriented by providing
multiple layers of services to their customers according to customers’ size and
budget. The factor that makes Singtel Fleet Manager stands out as compared to
M1 Fleet Manager is the unique service that Singtel offer, “zero replacement
cost”.
As stated by Singtel, “Zero replacement cost” is an
added service of which there would be no additional cost in the event of faulty
hardware during the “contractual period”. Adding on, Singtel will manage all
the technical aspects required for their product. In contrast, M1 will charge
their customers if there is an issue with the hardware and maintenance is
solely customer’s responsibility. This is being stated in M1 Fleet Management’s
terms and conditions. Hence, Singtel would be a more viable option as they are
more assuring to their customer about their product. Customers will safe as
they are not burden by any hardware faults or maintenance cost.
As
compared to M1 Fleet Management, Singtel Fleet Manager have the upper-hand in
terms of the more appealing value-added services bundled with the product.
However, Singtel Fleet Manager is lacking features such as “Accident
Notifications” and “Engine Diagnostics” that are found in M1 Fleet Management.
According
to M1 (n.d) Fleet Management , “Accident Notifications” stores the accident
details on a recorder and the collision data will be uploaded to the fleet
management portal. This is to mitigate liability on any accident occurred. Comparing
to Singtel’s product, it do not provide emergency notification to fleet
managers and no collision data collected. To justify Singtel Fleet Manager’s
lack of features, car black box with cameras are cheaply and readily available
in the market, it is also quite reliable as an evidence for accidents occurred.
This will reduce the need of “Accident Notification” feature from M1 Fleet
Management.
M1
also states that the feature “Engine Diagnostic” codes will be sent through the
devices and it will indicate the fleet vehicle’s engine health. This will allow
fleet managers to view their vehicle’s health while operating. Singtel does not
implement this feature in their product. However, a well-managed system on
Singtel Fleet Manager can produce ample time for maintenance routine checks of
fleet vehicles. This will lower the chances of fleet vehicle breaking down
while operating. Thus, it reduces the need of “Engine Diagnostic” feature.
In
my opinion, those features that M1 offers are only additional features of which
does not affect the main application of the product. Both M1 Fleet Management
and Singtel Fleet Manager satisfy the needs of the user, but I am more incline
towards Singtel Fleet Manager because Singtel keep reassuring the users on the
effectiveness of the product and the customer-oriented nature that they have
adopted.
